JOY LAYE 1928 - 2001 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and baba, Joy Laye (nee McMahon) in her 74th year on December 15, 2001 at General Hospital. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jim. Left to mourn her passing are her five girls and their families, Brooke and Ken Kell, Kristin, Jon (Lindsay), Dan (Andrea), and Dorie (Derrick) Paige and Andy Chiasson, and Carly (Greg) Kim and Larry Skidmore, Kali (Mike), Lese (Chris), Deanna, Kristopher, Jaime, Joshua, Kate, Brian, Jesse, and Kerry; Stacey and Bob Swanson, Jim and Eric, Jaime and Anthon Bouw, Jeremy, Lia, and Nolan, all of whom she considered her living legacy. She will also be missed by all of her friends and extended family. Everyone who knew her knew her love of family, travel and community. She loved to write, whether it was for the Selkirk Journal as a reporter, as author of "Comment by J.L.", a weekly column, or as the editor of the Knox Newsletter. She was a faithful member of Knox Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Being an only child, she was especially proud of her role as the "Grand Matriarch" of her large and loving family. She spend countless hours working on compiling our family history. Her unique sense of humour was appreciated by family and friends. A service of remembrance will be held Monday, December 17 (today) at Knox Presbyterian Church in Selkirk at 2:00 p.m., with her son-in-law Rev. Anthon Bouw officiating. Her honorary pallbearers will be her 20 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in Moms and Babas memory can be made to the Knox Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 341 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB, R1A 1N1, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
