Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRENE MARCHAND (nee HOUDE) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Irene, on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND, at the age of 84. Irene was born August 17, 1917 in Marquette, MB, daughter of Alfred and Philomene (Lachance) Houde. Irene spent her childhood and attended school in Marquette. On May 21, 1949 she married Edward Marchand in Elie, MB. Together they moved to Moorhead and later to Fargo. Irene worked for 47 years caring for children. Left to cherish her memory are her only grandson, Joshua Marchand; his mother Kim and her daughter Melinda; her daughter-in-law, Becky and her sons, Dakota and Trae; one sister Bertha Beaudry; numerous Marchand and Houde nieces and nephews; many good friends and neighbours. Irene lived a happy, simple life and was so appreciative. Her strong belief in God guided her throughout her life. Her faith sustained her through difficult times. She was deeply saddened by the tragic death of her only son, Alfred Gilles, on September 11 in New York. Irene, known as "Ma Tante Irene", always openly expressed her love for her nieces and nephews and in turn she was deeply loved by them all. She always looked forward to their phone calls, cards, letters and visits. Irene was a very giving person. She touched the lives of many. Those who knew her loved her. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Eddie; two infant sons; her parents; her brothers, Joseph, Henri and Alphonse Houde; her sisters, Blanche Houde, Marie Picard, Clara Chabot, Agatha Chabot, Yvonne Legault, Annette Rivard, Mathilda Rochon and Cecile Rivard. The celebration of her life will begin with visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Prayers at 6:30 p.m. at Hanson Rumsbold Funeral Home in Fargo on Monday, December 17. The funeral mass will be held at St. Marys Cathedral on Tuesday, December 18 at 12:00 noon. Meme was and still is in my opinion, the life blood of many of us. She was wise and kindhearted. She possesed special gifts of the spirit which allowed her to see many things beyond the grasp of many. She could predict, tell, and educate all at the same time. So much love and caring I learned for the short summers around her. I miss her daily, and still hear her beautiful vioce . To this day, all her teachings stay with me, even those few that my father Alfred told her not to share. I remember her laugh and cunningness. She would send my dad to the store, or on an arrend just to have time with me. Once he pulled out of her narrow driveway, in Fargo, I would be beccened to sit at her small table. I always knew it was now time for the tea and cards, healing of the limbs, etc. The Lord and Savior was her best friend.... I Love and miss and cherish her very much.
