DANIEL KREITZ On December 15, 2001, Daniel Kreitz, aged 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the Emerson Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Dan is survived by his devoted wife Violet; and his four children, Ken (Carol), Diann (Jim), Ron (Sharon), and Terry (Milli) as well as eight grandchildren, Jeri-Lynn (Kevin), Lyndsay, Jason, Jill, Bradley, Kevin, Dylan, and Sydney. Dan is also survived by sisters, Elsie, Lily, Edna, Esther, and Ruby; brothers, Fred, Willard, and Arthur; sisters and brothers-in-law, Annie (Emil), Ruth (August), and Walter (Gerry) and numerous nieces and nephews. Dan was born in Emerson in 1920, and grew up in the Ridgeville area, attending Springbank School. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1940 - 1944. After his return from the Second World War, Dan joined Canada Customs, where he worked in the Emerson area for 32 years, retiring in 1976. Dan and Violet were married in Friedensthal, MB in 1948. They lived in West Lynne for 52 years, and moved to Emerson in 1999. Dan was active in the Emerson community, serving on the town council, local school board, and Lutheran Church Council. He was also very active in minor sports, serving as a coach for baseball and hockey programs for many years. Dan also was a member of the Emerson Royal Canadian Legion, serving as poppy chairman for many years. Dan spent his retirement enjoying his family and friends, and his favourite pastime, fishing. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Emerson. Interment will follow at the Emerson Cemetery. His grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Emerson Emmanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Emerson Minor Sports.
