Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLYNN CAROL MCLEAN November 13, 1940 - December 23, 2001 On 21 December in the Palliative Care Unit of St Boniface Hospital Lynn McLean died peacefully, attended by her close family. Lynn was born in Calgary, AB, but her fathers career in the Air Force took the family to many places in Canada. An anchor for her during these early years was life with extended family in Watrous, SK, which remained her spiritual home. It was in Edmonton, at an early age, that she and Murdith met and formed an attachment leading later to marriage and more than forty years of happy union. Lynn was a graduate in Education from the University of Alberta. Her contributions as an ardent and gifted teacher were distributed as far as Birmingham, England; Edmonton, Grande Prairie and Red Deer, AB; and for over 15 years in Winnipeg. When Lynns recurring cancer enforced a leave from teaching in 1994, she devoted her remaining energy to sustaining friendships and to volunteer projects concerning breast cancer. She was closely involved in a Living With Cancer group at St Georges Anglican Church. Lynn also became the Co-Chair of the Manitoba Breast Cancer Advisory Council, and was instrumental in establishing the Hope Breast Cancer information centre which opened late in 1997. Contributions like these brought her a MARN Community Caring Award for 1999. She was fulfilled by flower-arranging, engaging friendships, travel, but above all by her family. Lynn was sustained by her connection with St Georges Anglican Church. She was upheld by a network of friends who continued to visit her during her illness, especially Ruth. She was wonderfully supported by faithful home care workers, and by the attention of several physicians and many nurses who treated her with both compassion and skill. She is survived by her husband Murdith, with whom she shared much; by daughter Alison and her husband Randy with their sons, Benjamin and William; by son John and his wife Angie with son Denham; by brother Wayne with wife Deena; by sister-in-law and brother-in-law Maureen and Win Kirkwood; and by aunts, Dorothy Stroud, Meta Rizer, Lonnie Leslie and uncle Jim Gibney, as well as a number of nephews and nieces. Also among the family survivors are the many cousins and cousin-connections in Watrous. Lynn will be sadly missed, while we thank God for her relief from travail, and birth into the Kingdom. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 27 at 2:00 p.m. in St Georges Crescentwood Anglican Church, Grosvenor and Wilton, with Canon Tony Harwood-Jones presiding. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Lynn McLean Memorial Fund, St. Johns College, 92 Dysart Rd., Winnipeg, MB, R3T 2M5.
