Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD GEORGE BURROWS December 16, 1934 - December 23, 2001 It is with profound sadness and shock the family announces the sudden passing of a beloved husband, son, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, at home in Winnipeg. He had just returned from his other home in Plant City, FL and was anticipating a wonderful Christmas with family, friends, and neighbours. Don was born in Flin Flon, MB 67 years ago and spent a happy, carefree childhood there and at Denare Beach, SK. He loved his cabin and returned most summers, including this past summer. He thought fondly of the people, remembered operettas, bridge, the Flin Flon luncheons and the Trout Festival. After attending Brandon College Don worked in Flin Flon, Lynn Lake and then joined the post-war R.C.A.F. He was stationed in Edmonton and trained at Trenton and Marietta, GA. He took his family north, this time to Churchill where he was employed for PanAm/NASA. Don worked his way up until he was Test Conductor at the Rocket Range. He was planning to attend a Churchill Reunion next summer. He worked at Saunders Aircraft, in Gimli and the Post Office in Winnipeg before finishing his career at Air Canada maintenance in Winnipeg. He belonged to Air Canada Pionairs and formally retired in 1998. He leaves to mourn his wife Nori Ritchie; mother Mary Burrows; daughter Karen Dee (Wes Friesen) sister Marilyn (Dr. Ron Watson), all of Winnipeg; son Lance of Vancouver, BC; stepdaughters, Laurel (Jim Bousfield) of Pitt Meadows, BC and Meri Tremblay of Dubai, U.A.E. Grandchildren, Stephanie, Erin and Cheryl Friesen, Kathleen Tremblay; great-grandchildren, Justin and Jasmine. Nieces, Debbie (Rick Martin), Linda (Cam McFadyen). Nephews, Don (Tracy Love), Rick (Claudia) and Ron Watson and, as Don called them, "the next generation", Liana and Jason Martin; Karlyn and Devyn McFadyen; Kira and Hunter Love-Watson and Ashleigh Watson. He loved each and every one of you and was very proud to be Grandpa, Unk or just "Don". His beloved father, Wilfred predeceased him in 1995. Don also leaves many relatives which he enjoyed visting at the Robinson/McNainey family annual picnic held in Alberta, and relatives in Kimberley. Also left are Uncle Vic and Geraldine and other Burrows relatives in Nova Scotia, and Ruth and Gord Platt of Brantford, ON. Retirement gave him more time to play with his Cat Ozzie; visit with family and friends, fix things, watch for alligators on the lake or cultivate weeds, a lawn and grapefruit tree. Don was a Christian gentleman in every sense of the word. He put everyones welfare ahead of his own. Don Burrows lives on in others due to his generous transplant gifts. His belief in truth and honesty was foremost. He was a talented pianist and lit up a room when he walked in. He was funny and at times a practical joker. He loved and laughed and in turn was loved. He never forgot a friend and had colourful memories of so many of you. He had a passion for sports, watched football on his last afternoon and the Bucs won! We are gathering to say goodbye and share memories on Saturday, December 29 at 1:00 p.m. in Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Ave., at Belvidere Street. A reception will follow immediately downstairs in the church hall. If friends so desire, donations may be made in his memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. WHAT IS DYING? A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says "She is gone". Gone where? Gone from my sight thats all; she is just as large as when I saw her...The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not in her and just at that moment when someone at my side says, "She is Gone", there are other voices who are watching her coming. Other voices take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!" And that is dying. Bishop Brent REMEMBRANCE is presence in absence It is speech in silence It is the ceaseless return of a past memory.
