IAN ALEXANDER On Christmas Day, we said goodbye to our husband, father, grandpa, friend, neighbour and colleague. Throughout his illness Ian was never alone. At the end of his life he was surrounded by his family in a room filled with love. Ian was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, in 1936. He immigrated to Canada as a teenager. His first home in Winnipeg was with his brother and his family. While he celebrated his Scottish heritage, his true home was Winnipeg and he was proud to be a Canadian. Ian met a lovely nursing student on a blind date. He married his first and only true love, Ann Carroll in 1959. Their children, Lesley, Susan and Ian will deeply miss their dad. Ian was passionate about soccerplaying, coaching and watching. A proud accomplishment was the recruitment and sponsorship of several Scottish soccer players for the Thistle Football Club in the 1970s. They were welcomed into the family home as they adjusted to life in Canada. Many of Ians lifetime friendships began on a soccer pitch. Loyal to his Scottish roots, golf was Ians game. He loved the challenge of each round and cherished the camaraderie of the clubhouse, locker room and the links. His belief in community service led him to organize various golf tournaments. He was especially proud of his involvement with the St. Andrews Society Child War Amps Tournament. Ann and Ians winter home in Myrtle Beach made year round golf possible. This was the place he truly unwound and enjoyed life. Many friends and family members enjoyed generous hospitality at Shadow Moss. Having his grandchildren around him for games of golf, dominoes and cards was something he loved. There were lunch dates, living room picnics, storytelling times and even manicure and hairstyling sessions! Ian was a man of character, a spirited flashy dresser with a great sense of humour, a zest for life and a love of people. Thank you for thinking, visiting, calling, caregiving, praying and loving him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 10:30 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Broadway Community Ministry, 102 - 222 Furby St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2A7. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
