MATTHEW BARRY Peacefully, in his home, on Christmas Eve, retired Detective Sergeant Matthew Barry died from bone cancer. He leaves behind to mourn his death his son Martin and daughter Evelyn along with daughter-in-law Tracey and Matthew, his grandson. Also mourning are the mother of his children Olga and his brother Robert of Ardronssan Scotland. Matthew was born on June 4, 1925 to Matthew and Helen Barry in Kirkowan, Scotland. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Air Force as an airgunner. He earned the Distinguished Flying Medal. Upon leaving the Air Force he joined the Glasgow Police Force before immigrating to Canada in 1952, and joining the Winnipeg Police Department where he remained till retiring in 1984. He was then employed at the Manitoba Youth Centre till 1989. From 1989 to 1995 he served with The Corps of Commissionaires primarily at the Veterans Manor. The family would like to thank the staff of Concordia Hospital, Dr. Bergen and the home care workers who assisted him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
