CATHERINE (CATHY) LINDSAY (BURNS)
Born: Dec 29, 1953
Date of Passing: Dec 25, 2001
Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE (CATHY) LINDSAY (nee BURNS) It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Catherine Lindsay, who was taken from us on December 25, 2001, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Cathy died peacefully in her sleep atthe St. Boniface Hospital, on Christmas morning. Catherine was predeceased by her mother Lillian and father Wally. Catherine is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her son Shane and friend Joan Geres; partner Ralph Abramson; sister Barbara (Bob) Tait; close and dear friend Karen Gallo; Karen and Ralphs mother Hatha Abramson; Uncles Wally and Cec Winter; nephews, Chris and Jeff, and Trevor and niece Jackie. Cathy will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her in her all too short life. Catherine was born on December 29, 1953 in Winnipeg, where she lived all of her life. She grew up in the west end of the city and attended school in that area. Catherine lost both of her parents early, her mother in 1969 and her father in 1981. Because of these early losses, she developed a strong sense of self reliance and independence. She grew into a strong and beautiful young woman. In 1976 she married Robert Lindsay and in their first year of marriage, their only child, a son, Shane was born. Catherine was a wonderful mother, loving and protective, and from her early years, she tried to instill in Shane those same characteristics of self reliance and independence that she had developed early in her life. In a loving and protective way, she prepared Shane for his life. She believed that one of her prime responsibilities as a parent was to help Shane develop into a strong and independent person - honest and industrious. She took great care to teach him the value and importance of self reliance, honesty and independence. In 1992, Catherine and Bob parted ways. After separating from Bob, she met Ralph Abramson, with whom she spent the remainder of her life. They enjoyed a happy life together. Over the years, they travelled to many different areas in Canada. Cathy enjoyed these trips and especially relished their many trips to Ottawa, a city she came to love. After she separated from Bob, Cathy re-entered the workforce. Her last place of employment was at the Khartum Shrine where she served as Office Manager. Cathy enjoyed her work and was a conscientious, diligent and dedicated employee who applied her usual meticulous efforts to all her duties, large and small. She made many friends at Khartum and enjoyed a close and special relationship with Don Murray, the Khartum Shrine Recorder. Cathy made friends easily and often, and people genuinely liked her. She had a warm and friendly personality and an innate honesty which people had to respect. She had a keen sense of humour and sharp wit which she would use to great effect to make a point, but always in a kind and respectful way. She always gave of herself in whatever she did and never did things in half measure. She was an intelligent and creative person who went to great lengths to do things properly and as close to perfect as she could. Cathy was a strong willed and self reliant person, with a deep sense of compassion and a kind and gentle soul. She laughed easily and without restraint. Catherine will be deeply missed. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Khartum Shrine Temple, 1155 Wilkes Ave., on Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it was Cathys wish that any donations be made to the Khartum Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, contact Craig Houston, 945-1438.
