GREGORY JOHN WILTON Peacefully, on Christmas evening, 2001, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Greg passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, surrounded by his devoted parents and his best friend, Marion. Born on July 23, 1949, in Winnipeg, Greg was raised in Fort Garry, graduating from Vincent Massey Collegiate. While working with MTS and the Provincial Parks Department, Greg continued his education at the University of Manitoba, earning a Masters Degree in Philosophy. Subsequently, he attended the University of Western Ontario in London, where he acquired a Masters Degree in Library Science. Gregs critical thinking skills and computer training served him well in various library positions which he held in Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie. At the time of his illness, he was on leave from his position at the University of Manitobas Neil John MacLean Health Sciences Library. Greg enjoyed golfing, music, traveling and reading. But, his greatest joy was spending time at his cabin in Spruce Woods, which he built as a retreat to continue his interests in philosophy, history and his love of nature. Greg was predeceased earlier this year by his wife Eunice Pokrant on January 5, and by his brother Raymond Wilton on Good Friday, 2001. Left to grieve him are his loving parents, Alice and Gilbert Wilton; his friend and kindred spirit, Marion Widlake; his three nieces, Shauna, Diana and Megan Wilton; his sister-in-law Donna Kristjanson; his uncle George Abernethy; as well as many relatives and friends. Greg was a man of few words, but profound thoughts. He adhered to strong moral principles which he practised in his daily life. He was wise beyond his years, a true intellectual. He was a devoted son and an honest friend who will forever live on in our hearts and minds. A private memorial service will be held, and, at his request, he will be cremated with interment to take place in Spruce Woods at a later date. We wish to thank Dr. Peter Kirk and the staff of Riverviews Palliative Care Unit, 3 East Wing, for their exceptional care and kindness toward Greg and to us during the last two months. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you so wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3C 9Z9, or a charity of your choice. "And when my journey takes me to the end of the road of life, beyond times hidden bend, I hope my fellow travellers can say with truthful hearts - a good man passed this way."
