Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELMER ALEX OLSON It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather and brother on December 24, 2001 at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg at the age of 86. Alex was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Julia Olson; sisters, Lillie and Annie, and one brother Eric. Left to mourn and cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Elsie and daughters, Barb (Jim) Mushaluk, Eileen, and Marilyn; and sons, Peter (Tracy) and Warren; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister Lily Kunzelman; and brother-in-law Earl Fethers. Alex was born on September 23, 1915 in Inwood, MB and was educated at Skogan School. He grew up on the family farm, and later moved to Winnipeg and entered the Royal Canadian Air Force. He completed four years of service, during which time he married Elsie Fethers in 1943. Upon his discharge they moved to Sandridge, MB and farmed for 21 years (1947 to 1968). They moved to Winnipeg in 1968 and resided in St. James while Alex worked for the T. Eaton Company as a carpenter until he retired 16 years later. Alex and Elsie moved to the Kiwanis Courts in the fall of 2000. Alex had a good sense of humour and enjoyed telling a good joke, right up to the last day of his life. He enjoyed gardening, always planting and harvesting his very own garden until moving to the Kiwanis Courts. He loved summers, spending time with his grandchildren and taking trips with Elsie and his family. Of the numerous vacations he had taken, Alaska, Churchill and Hawaii were his favourites. Alex loved filling his home with laughter and family. A house full of noisy grandchildren was music to his ears. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Ave. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Cheryl Vermette, Colin Ferguson, Jonathan and Jason Mushaluk, Rebecca and her husband Stephen Wilkins. Honorary pallbearers are Kimberlee, Emily and Kevin Olson, and great-grandson Christopher Wilkins. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital, 3rd floor North Wing, with special thanks to Tracy, Wendy and Nancy for the special attention, unending care, and comfort. A very special thank you to Yvonne of Home Care for the laughter, companionship, and chatter she shared with Alex. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations may be made in Alexs memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St. Winnipeg, R3B 2H8. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
