Evelyn was predeceased by her husband David Bernstein in 1970. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Sam and Wilfred; and her sisters, Dorothy and Rona. She is survived by her loving daughter Joanne Sheps; her sons, Alan Bernstein (Donna), Richard Bernstein and Brian Bernstein (Elizabeth) and by her sister Berte Rubin (Alex) and her grandchildren, David, Laura, Lisa, Michael and Sarah. Evelyn was an artist whose life was a rich tapestry. She sculpted, sketched and created many beautiful things including hand woven afghans for each of her children. But the creation she was most proud of were her children. She was also very supportive and loving of her many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was truly a renaissance woman; she was a nurse, a businesswoman, jeweller, and a real estate agent at various times of her life. She lived her final year at the Sharon Home, Simkin Centre. She was always very proud of the fact that her father, Benjamin Sarner, was the Founding Executive Director of the original Sharon Home. Services were held January 1, 2002 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue at 1:00 p.m., 561 Wellington Cres. Pallbearers: Richard Bernstein, Brian Bernstein, Michael Bernstein, David Sheps, Don Aronovitch, Benjamin Simcoe. Honorary pallbearers: Joanne Sheps, Laura Sheps, Donna Bernstein, Elizabeth Bernstein, Sarah Bernstein, Berte Rubin. A special thank you to the staff at the Simkin Centre and Sue Percheluk for all of their kind care. In Evelyns memory, donations can be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba - Evelyn and David Bernstein Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.
