Offer Condolences or MemoryCAROLINE BRUYERE (GWAISEENSE) (nee COURCHENE) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Caroline on December 29, 2001 after a brave battle with cancer, with her loving family by her side. Her will to live enabled her to spend Christmas Day with her children and precious grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She leaves to mourn her passing Gordon, her husband of 49 years, her daughters, Karen (Chris), Charlene (Myles), and Patricia (Floyd) her sons, Richard (Nancy), Norman (Vera), Errol, and Norbert (Shirley) grandchildren, Durwin, Wilfred, Kristen, Christine, Brennan, Alyssa, Jared, Ryan, Rhianna, Leah, Hollie, Dakota, Darion, Delanie, Steven, Becky, Amber and Heidi; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Carrie, Koby, Kale, and Issac. She also leaves to mourn her brothers, Henry (Mildred), Herman (Katherine), George (Mary), and Robert (Katherine) and her sisters, Dora (J.B.), and Therese (Edgar) and many nieces and nephews. Caroline was predeceased by her parents, Ambrose and Sophie; and siblings, Mary Adelaide, Alex, John, Felix, and Alan. She was born on June 13, 1936, the youngest of four daughters on the Sagkeeng First Nation Reserve where she spent much of her life raising her children and caregiving to family members and many foster children. Caroline worked for Winnipeg School Division No. 1 as a teacher assistant for 19 years. Caroline was a gentle, loving, kind and patient soul who could never say no to anyone. She was a true model of unconditional love and acceptance. This was evident in her love for her entire family which included siblings, nieces, nephews, and all children she met. Caroline offered meals to anyone who came into her home. Her pickled dishes will be missed. Her gifts included cooking, gardening and providing support to those who needed her. In her retirement years she enjoyed travelling with her children, and visiting with family. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, particularly Dr. Foerster for his excellent care. Wake services will be at her home and interment services will be held at St. Alexanders parish on the Sagkeeng First Nation Reserve on Wednesday, January 2 at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be her sons, Richard, Norman, Errol, Norbert and grandsons, Durwin and Ryan. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Kristen, Christine, Holly, Travis, Rhianna and Wilfred. O Great Spirit Whose voice I hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me! I am small and weak, I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made and my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise so that I may understand the things You have taught my people, let me learn the lessons You have hidden in every leaf and rock. I seek strength not be greater than my brother, but to fight my greatest enemy, myself. Make me always ready to come to You with clean hands and straight eyes. So when life fades as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame.
