Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD JOHN GALKA Peacefully, with his family at his bedside in the early morning of January 2, 2002, Edward passed away at Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank at the age of 87 years. Ed, as he was affectionately known, was predeceased by his beloved wife, Anne, on January 5, 1998. He leaves to mourn his loss, seven children; Louise (Lawrence) Mihalchuk and family, Charlene (Chad) Gislason, Suzanne (Andrew King) and Mark, Allan Galka and sons, Chris and Jordan, Dianne (Howie) Edmonds, Theresa (Dr. Ron) Witzke and family Dr. Ron Jr. (Marsha), Alex (Kellie Williams) and Tim, Brian (Carol) Galka and son Tyler, Patricia Galka and Valerie (Ernie) Kuffner. He was blessed with four precious great-grandchildren, Kristjan and Erik Gislason and Emily and Ron-Ron Witzke. Ed is survived by his sisters, Vicky Chopp, Sue (Phil) Romanchuk; his sisters-in-law, Anne Galka, Kay Chajkowski, Nettie (Bob) Marks; his brother-in-law Mickey Malko and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Galka; his brothers, John, Stanley and Anton Galka; his sister Helen Chomiski; his in-laws, Michael and Katherine Kulyk and several other close relatives. Dad was born on October 13, 1914 at Melrose, MB, and lived there his entire life. Dad married Mom (Anne Kulyk) on October 27, 1945 and enjoyed 52 years of marriage until Moms death in 1998. Dad worked at the C.N.R. shops in Transcona until his retirement in 1979. Dad was also a farmer and continued to farm after retirement until he had a stroke in 2000. Dad was an accomplished carpenter; building his own house as well as helping his kids build theirs. Dad took great pride in his kids and their accomplishments. Dad loved company, always welcoming visitors to his home. He also enjoyed travelling to visit family and to make new friends. Dad enjoyed life to the fullest. Fishing was a great pastime he enjoyed with family and friends. Even after a debilitating stroke forced him to reside at Kin Place, he was taken fishing to Selkirk and was all smiles when he was honoured as fisherman of the day. Dad was a life-time member of St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Cooks Creek Council The family would like to thank the staff at Kin Place for the care and love they gave Dad during his stay as well as a special gratitude for the kindness and assistance during his last few days. Prayers will be said on Friday, January 4 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church, Cooks Creek, MB. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. also at the church with Fr. Sebastian Gacki officiating. Interment will follow at the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edwards memory to St. Michaels Church, Building Fund, RR #2, Dugald, MB, R0E 0K0; Kin Place Personal Care Home, Box 28, Oakbank, MB, R0E 1J0; or a charity of your choice.
