IRMA J. GENDREAU, R.N. Irma passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2002 at the Tache Nursing Centre. Born in St. Norbert, MB on January 11, 1906. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. L.S. Gendreau. Irma received her education in St. Norbert and graduated from the St. Boniface General Hospital, School of Nurses in 1932. In 1941, she established residence at Ste-Rose du Lac, MB, and worked as a receptionist and office nurse for her brothers, the late Dr. R.L. Gendreau and the late Gaston for a period of 26 years. In 1968, Irma returned to St. Boniface where she joined the nursing staff at the Tache Nursing Centre as Evening Coordinator until her retirement. She leaves to mourn her passing sister-in-law Mrs. Claude Gendreau, and her many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents; six brothers, Dr. L.P. Gendreau 1977, Charles Henri 1984, Georges 1953, Dr. Lionel 1973, Gaston 1988, Adrien 1991; her nephews, Edouard and Louis Gendreau; her nieces, Jacqueline Prefontaine and Claire Bartmanovich; and her sisters-in-law Regina, Laura, Alida and Therese Gendreau. All her family and friends will remember her calm and gentle manner and her delightful sense of humour. Irma was a wonderful and dedicated nurse whose skills will be remembered by many. Although she was petite in stature, she possessed a strong spirit and love of life. Irma was a role model to us and we will miss her always. Her family is grateful for the excellent and compassionate care she received at St. Boniface Hospital and lately at the Tache Centre 2ABC. We deeply appreciate the help and friendship she received and shared with Mrs. Adeline Fontaine and the acts of kindness from all her neighbours at her block on Goulet; also to Charles, her great-nephew, for his numerous visits and concern while she was ill. After her arrival at Tache, her loyal friend Louise was daily by her side. Thank you so much Louise. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the St. Boniface Cathedral on Saturday, January 5 at 10:00 a.m. Msgr. Albert Frechette will be presiding. Service will terminate at the Cathedral. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Irmas memory to Tache Nursing Centre, 185 Despins St., Winnipeg, MB R2H 2B3.
