Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA "MARY" HOLUNGA It is with heavy hearts that we, Marys family, announce the sudden passing of our very dear sister, aunt, cousin and friend who passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, December 31, 2001. Mary was born on March 11, 1920 to her parents, Vasile (Wasyl) and Magdalena (Maggie) Holunga on their farm in the RM Boulton, Manitoba. Mary was predeceased by her mother in 1970; her father in 1980; infant sisters and brother, Dora, Vera and George Holunga; sisters-in-law, Sadie and Anita Holunga; nephews, Cyril, Nicolae, Toader and Roger Holunga. Surviving her are her brothers, Nestor and Ted Holunga; sisters, Anne Russell and Roberta (Bobby) Holunga; nieces and nephews, Geraldine, Willis (Adele), Wayne, Constance, Bonita Holunga, Arleen (Richard) Wagner, Terry (Brenda), Tom (Betty), Tim (Shirley) Holunga, Cathy (Dan) Davis and Karen (Don) Bomback and their families and numerous other relatives and friends. Mary was a beautiful person both inside and out. Her family will always remember her devotion to her faith. Also, her unlimited kindness, compassion, selflessness, boundless energy, her positive attitude, encouragement, and her home filled with love and laughter. She liked to quote, "I dont know where or when or why, but on this truth I can rely. Of mine own self I can do nothing, but God within me, I can do everything. And that is enough to know." Her academic education was received at Shell Bank School in Lennard, Manitoba and her Nursing Diploma was received from the Chicago School of Nursing in the USA. She first worked as a Domestic, after which followed years of Nursing at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Russell, MB. and The Flin Flon General Hospital in Flin Flon, MB. Mary also did Private Nursing for many individuals as well as Dental Assistant in Winnipeg for Dr. Donald Bomback. Mary was a founding member of the St. Demetrios Romanian Orthodox Church and was very active in the Church Community, particularly in baking of bread for the Holy Eucharist for 25 years. She loved music and had a beautiful voice with which to sing. Her hobbies included expanding her knowledge and awareness of Medical Science and current issues. As well, Mary enjoyed baking, gardening, the Arts, Symphonies, crocheting, knitting, embroidering and sharing her love and many talents with her kin and multitude of friends. Mary was loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Donald Bomback and active pallbearers will be Willis, Wayne, Tom, Tim, Demetrios and Teddy Holunga, Richard Wagner and Dan Davis. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 4 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5 at the St. Demetrios Romanian Orthodox Church, 103 Furby Street at Westminister, with Fr. Victor Malanca officiating and assisted by Cantor Terry Holunga. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. Following the interment, there will be a gathering of family and friends for the Memorial Dinner in the St. Demetrios Romanian Orthodox Church lower hall.
