ROBERT McGILL JUNE 20, 1926 - JANUARY 1, 2002 Robert (Bob) McGill, passed away peacefully after a short illness on January 1, 2002, at the Health Sciences Centre with his loving family at his side. He leaves to mourn his passing Elsie, his loving wife of 47 years and his devoted daughter Tannis (Rob) Appelmans. He also leaves to mourn his sister Flora McGill and his extended family of, Irene and Wilf Felteau, Marlene and Jack Froese, Gwen Koziy, Charlene Cavanaugh (Brian, Conner), Wilf Felteau (Kathy, Nathan, Kara), Melissa Felteau, Kim McInnis (Neil, Caitlin, Bryn), Rob Koziy (Deanna, Matthew), Rhys Koziy, John Froese, Susan (Don) McHardy, Linda McGill (Ken), as well as Jan, Jim, and Donald McGill, and Jean, John, Gloria, and Reg Shewchuk. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Christine and James, and brother Jim. He was born in Winnipeg on June 20, 1926, and grew up on Lipton Street. He attended Principal Sparling and Daniel Mac Schools. He met Elsie, the love of his life, skiing in Thunder Bay and they were married on May 8, 1954. Bob remained in Thunder Bay until 1969 when he and his family moved to Winnipeg. Bob had a long, distinguished career in sales starting with Robin Hood Flour Mills. As a forward-thinking entrepreneur, he owned and operated the Orchid Flower Shop in Thunder Bay. He was transferred to Winnipeg in 1969 where he developed his sales and marketing career with Dunlop Industries. The highlight of his career was as an international sales representative with Monarch Industries. He traveled extensively in Europe and Asia and particularly liked his involvement with third world countries. Bob never really retired and continued to generously serve the community working at the Stony Mountain Penitentiary Library and the John Howard Society. He enthusiastically promoted an employment reentry program that changed the course of many lives. For over a decade, Bob enjoyed assisting Elsie in serving the seniors of the Rady Jewish Community Center in numerous ways, but most notably facilitating winter vacations to Florida, Arizona, and California. Bob loved to spend his summers at his RV in Buffalo Point, Warroad, and Gimli. Most recently, he was proud of their cottage at Spruce Bay on Lake Winnipeg. While at the cottage he and Elsie enjoyed playing golf almost daily at the Northern Aire Golf Course. Bob also enjoyed sharing coffee time with the Monarch retirement group and with his friends at the Polo Park food court. He loved to entertain, listen to classical music, and was a prodigious historical reader. The family wishes to thank the staff at Grace Hospital ICU and Health Sciences SICU who lovingly cared for us all in this most difficult time. The family gratefully acknowledges the extraordinary efforts and compassion shown to Bob and his family by the nursing and medical teams. You gave us the strength we needed. God bless you all. Gifts of floral tributes are gratefully declined but should you desire to remember Bob, your thoughtful donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg MB R3A 1P6 or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 102-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6.
