Sophie will be lovingly missed by her husband Bill; her daughters, Betty (Jack Cannon) Salamon, Kathy (Doug) Mitchell; and son Michael (Wendi) and grandchildren, Erica and Mark Mitchell, Theresa and Scott Cannon, and Juston, Andra, Paris and Aurhea Salamon. She will also be missed by her sisters, Polly Kirton, Susan (Chuck) Beer, and Helen (Larry) Dufour; brothers, Walter (Veronica) Maguire, Frank (Phyllis), and Gerry (Joan) and sister-in-law Vicki (Rollie) Gosselin, as well as the many members of her large family, and her many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Adolph and Katherine Polanski, and brothers, John and Lorne. Sophie was born in Jasmin, Saskatchewan, one of nine children. She lived in Kelleher, Regina and Gunton before moving to Winnipeg in 1949 where she met her husband. From her mother she learnt her extensive cooking and gardening skills. Sophie was very artistic, and enjoyed writing and painting; she was a crafter and avid reader. The wife of a CN Railroader, she lived in Sioux Lookout, Saskatoon, Thunder Bay, and Winnipeg. A proficient curler when younger, she passed her love of curling on to her granddaughter Theresa. A proud grandmother, she took great delight in the hockey exploits of her grandsons. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, with Father Carl Tarnopolski Presiding. Internment will follow at a later date.
