Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryR. DEREK SHRUPKA Suddenly and tragically on December 31, 2001 at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Derek was taken from his family and friends. He is survived by his sisters, Bev Sinclair, Marilyn Taylor and Val Mostowy (Pee Wee) brothers, Jim (Darlene), Larry Sinclair and Lloyd Shrupka; life long friends, Edwin Mayo and family and Jack Griffiths and family. He also leaves numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Derek was predeceased by his father Stan in 1982, mother Rose in 1993, infant brother Stanley in 1952, his adopted sister Heather in August 2001 and his brother Myles in November 2001. Born on Christmas day in Selkirk, MB to Rose and Stan, he was the youngest of nine children. Derek held many jobs in his lifetime with the Coast Guard, Public Works and as a plumbers apprentice. He also worked for seven years as an ambulance attendant with Richard Hooker, whose memory of him was as the best attendant hed ever had. This seemed to be his calling as he had a kind heart and an uncommon passion to help those in need. Prayers will be said on Sunday, January 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7 at 2:00 p.m. also in the chapel. Interment to be held at a later date. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
