TORBEN JENSEN Peacefully, among friends and family, on December 23, 2001, in Coquitlam, BC, aged 70. Torben was predeceased by his brother Clifford, his mother Elna and his father Emil Jensen. Torben was born in Winnipeg in 1931. In 1949, after graduating from high school, Torben spent three years in the Signal Corps of the Canadian Army. In 1958, he graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BSc in Civil Engineering. Torben had a distinguished professional career. Early on, he was a Plant Manager with Canadian Phoenix Steel and Pipe Ltd., then later a Research Officer with the National Research Council of Canada, Senior Vice-President of Kleysen Transport Ltd. and President of the Manitoba Trucking Association. He completed his career as an Appeal Commissioner with the Workers Compensation Appeal Commission where he demonstrated, once again, his hallmark qualities of integrity and astute judgement. Torben is survived by his four children, his son, Paul Jensen, a physician in Newfoundland, his youngest daughter, Patricia Jensen, a teacher in British Columbia, his second daughter, Maureen Fitzpatrick, a social worker in Alberta, and his eldest daughter Karen Jensen, a lawyer in Ontario. Torben leaves many friends and family who mourn his passing, including Norma Lawrence, his three sons-in-law and eight grandchildren, Nancy Jensen, Inge and John Kelly, the Brown and Winther families, David Nairn and the Thomsen family in Denmark. A memorial service will be held in Port Coquitlam, BC at 10:00 a.m. on January 11 at Burkview Funeral Home. Due to an illness in the family, the memorial service in Winnipeg has been delayed until February 16 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Marks Lutheran Church.
