BRIAN WESLEY OWENS September 16, 1941 - January 4, 2002 Suddenly but peacefully after a lengthy illness, Brian passed away at 60 years of age on Friday, January 4, 2002. Brain was born in the Portage General Hospital, lived in High Bluff attending school there, and then worked for Harold Wright on the farm and with McMaster Funeral Home in Portage. Brian left High Bluff and moved to Carberry in 1962. He was employed by Carnation Foods until 1992 when ill health forced him to remain at home. Brian enjoyed sports, curling, baseball, and even extended his interest by becoming an umpire. He loved watching his daughter Courtney participate in sporting activities and enjoyed watching curling and hockey on television. Brian was predeceased by his parents, Stanley (1983) and Bertha Owens (1985) and by his youngest brother Terry in 1999. Brian is survived by his loving wife Stephanie (nee Christie) and daughter Courtney of Carberry, sons, Rodney of Edmonton, Terry of Vancouver, and Tyson of Kelowna, BC; and their mother Charlotte Owens of Edmonton; three brothers Hugh (Margie) of Portage, Wayne (Joleen) of Thunder Bay, and Larry of Winnipeg; sister Glady Demman of Portage; sister-in-law Lesley Owens of Winnipeg; as well as several nephews. Brian is also survived by his mother-in-law Hilda Christie of Glenboro, sister-in-law Candy (Eric) Plaetinck of Glenboro, brothers-in-law, Phillip of Calgary and Randal of Brandon; as well as four nieces and five nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 9 at 1:00 p.m. in the Carberry United Church with Rev. Peggy Reid officiating. Interment will take place in the High Bluff Methodist Cemetery at approximately 4:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Brains memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 727B-10th St., Brandon, R7A 4G7 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 824-18th St. Unit 3, Brandon, R7A 5B7. Dad: God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, So he wrapped you in His loving arms and whispered "Come With Me". You suffered so much is silence and your spirit did not bend. You face your paid with courage until the very end. You tried so hard to stay with us, your fight was all in vain. God took you in his loving arms and freed you from all pain. Rest In Peace.
