BASIL MARLOW WAKEMAN July 14, 1925 - December 27, 2001 Basil Marlow Wakeman, aged 76 years, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2001 at the St.Boniface General Hospital, following complications related to open-heart surgery. Basil was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Winnifred; and his wife Marlene. He will be fondly remembered by his daughter Donna (husband Bruce) and granddaughters, Janna, Kaitlin and Madison Young, stepdaughter Kip Bukoske (husband Bob Coombes) and stepson Kevin (wife Susan) and grandchildren, Tricia, Chad (partner Michelle) and great-grand-daughter Trinity, and Garett (wife Jennifer) Bukoske; brothers, Roy (wife Jean), Allan (wife Enid) and Moe (wife Marg) and many other relatives, friends and neighbours. Basil was born and raised in Transcona and was employed by the CNR for his entire working career. There were many things in Basils life that gave him great pleasure, including time spent visiting with family and friends, the many winter holidays that he and Marlene shared in Texas and Hawaii, summers spent at Hillside Trailer Park, participating in the Transcona Seniors Curling League and breakfasts shared with other CNR retirees. Basil always gave freely of his time to help others and could be counted on if there was work to be done. Thank you to Dr. Dean Bell and the SICU staff at St. Boniface General Hospital for the professional and compassionate care extended to Basil and his family. A memorial service to celebrate Basils life will be held on Friday, January 11, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St., with Rev. Victoria Shaw officiating. Interment will precede the service at 2:00 p.m. at the Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with his spirit, donations in Basils memory may be made to the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave. - Room D 1003, Winnipeg, MB R2H 9Z9, with the hope that others may benefit from continued medical research. Dad... it is hard for me to believe that you wont be popping in again to drop off the bargains that you picked up for us or join us for dinner. I shall always treasure the memories of your friendship and appreciate your generosity and constant willingness to help me. I know that you were very proud of my family, and me, which is very gratifying. I will miss you every day and my love is with you always. Until we meet again, your green-eyed girl, Donna.
