SISTER MARY AGATHA FITZMAURICE, S.O.S. Sister Mary Agatha died peacefully at Scarborough Retirement Centre, Scarborough, ON, Monday, January 7, 2002 in the 74th year of her Religious Life. Born in Ste. Rose du Lac, MB, March 16, 1901, she was the eldest of nine children born to Thomas Fitzmaurice and Agatha Tucker. Predeceased by her brothers, Thomas, Edward, Patrick and Basil; and sisters, Clare, Rosetta (Reeves), Teresa (Ives) and Winnifred. Sister Mary entered the Sisters of Service in Toronto, February 2, 1928 and devoted her life to providing residential care and support services to young women, assisting them in their adaptation to a new country, Canada. She was the Director of Sisters of Service Hostels in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton and Vancouver. Other ministry assignments were Superior of Our Ladys Hospital, Vilna, AB, Formation House, Toronto, and Hospitality House, Edmonton. Elected to the first General Assembly of the Order, partici-pating in subsequent Chapters and serving on the General Council, she contributed to the growth and development of the Order. She leaves to mourn the Sisters of her religious community, the Sisters of Service, several nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. Family and friends may call at Scarborough Retirement Centre, 7th floor, 148 Markham Rd., Scarborough, ON, after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Rev. Charles Sitter, S.J., at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 10 in the main chapel of Scarborough Retirement Centre. Interment in Sisters of Service Plot, Mount Hope Cemetery, Toronto, ON. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Rosar Morrison Funeral Home, Toronto, ON.
