PEARL MAY CRANE On Sunday, January 7, 2002, Pearl May Crane, of Beauchemin Park Place, 5995 Roblin Blvd., passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital at the age of 90, following a brief illness. Pearl was predeceased by her two brothers, Harvey and Alex; and by her loving husband Reg in November 1999; and will be sadly missed by her son Larry, his wife Diana of Winnipeg, and grandchildren, Brian and wife Alexandrine and great-grandchild Owen of Ithaca, NY, Allison of Vancouver and David of Vancouver; her son David, wife Maureen of Burlington, ON, and grandchildren, Andrew, wife Tara and great-grandchild, Samuel of Burlington, Jordan and fiancee Wendy of London, ON, and Julie of Burlington; her brother-in-law Thomas Crane and his wife Anna of Thunder Bay, ON and nephew Murray Crane and wife Sally and their children, Jon and Joe of Thunder Bay, Maureen Waske and husband Ken of Thunder Bay and their children, Leanna and Josh, and nephew Sam and his wife Janice of Calgary, niece Harlene Pratch and husband Ron of Winnipeg and niece Heather Wozney and husband Len of Winnipeg. Pearl was born in Thunder Bay on August 2, 1911 and grew up on Prince Arthur Boulevard. She married Reg in 1933 and lived all her married life in Thunder Bay on Sprague Street until she and Reg moved to Winnipeg in 1994. Pearl enjoyed her new life in Winnipeg, apartment living, the friends and neighbours at Beauchemin Park and the various friends she met over the years in Winnipeg. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and welcomed their visits to her apartment. Everyone appreciated the loving hugs from Pearl. Pearl was a kind, pleasant person who maintained a positive outlook throughout her life, never complaining about lifes misfortunes. She was an avid reader being a weekly borrower of books from the public library and over the years knit many sweaters, scarves and mitts for her grandchildren. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and was responsible for introducing the Scottish culture to Reg. New Years Eve was a particular special celebration for her. She and Reg enjoyed several trips overseas where they visited with relatives and the birth place of their parents in Scotland and England. Struck by polio early in her married life, Pearl was unable to participate in many physical activities; however, she enjoyed listening to Regs stories of his experiences and his complaints over his curling, golf and cribbage games. She had a long happy marriage of 66 years with Reg and will be lovingly remembered and missed by all the family. Cremation has taken place. The family appreciates the care and courtesy extended to Pearl by the nurses and staff on the 4th floor of Grace Hospital and thanks them for their understanding. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., with the Rev. Michael Wilson officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined by the family.
