JOHN FRAZER (JACK) MITCHELL Peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at the Portage District General Hospital, John Frazer (Jack) Mitchell passed away at the age of 74 years. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Betty; parents, John and Sadie Mitchell and sister Trennie Hunter. He leaves behind his daughter Linda (Brian) Allanson with grandson Mitchell; son John (Maureen) Mitchell with granddaughters, Andrea, Kayla and Deanna all of Portage la Prairie; son Bruce of Winnipeg; sister Bernice (Malcolm) Macleod of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law, Donna Beaudry of Vancouver, BC and Meryl (Donald) Rassmussen of Boudette, MN. John, son of John Wilfred and Sadie Mitchell, was born in Winnipeg, MB on October 14, 1927. John enjoyed involvement in various groups. He belonged to the firm of George A. Touche & Co. as a student-in-accounts. He joined the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at the University of Manitoba and he was a member of the Cameron Highlanders serving for 12 years and retired with the rank of Captain. He married Muriel Betty Graham of Austin in 1953. He and his family moved to Dryden, ON until returning to Portage in 1968 when Jack served as the treasurer and vice-president of the Portage Mutual Insurance Co. In Portage he became the Director and President of the Portage Fair Board and Director and President of the Portage Terriers Junior Hockey Club. Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church Chapel with Rev. Julie Baker officiating. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Jacks memory to Central Plains Cancer Care Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8. A tree will be planted and cared for in memory of Jack by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel who are entrusted with the arrangements. 857-4021.
