Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAMUEL THEODORE YUAR On Wednesday, January 9, 2002, Sam Yuar passed away peacefully at the Central Park Lodge. He is survived by his loving wife Kay of 53 years; sister Annette of Ottawa, ON; brother-in-law Raymond Girling of Minnedosa; and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his father Nezur and mother, Mary. Sam was born in Winnipeg, October 26, 1918 He grew up in the North End of the city. Sam was an accountant by profession. In July 1947, he was employed by Revenue Canada, Taxation. For the next 20 years he assessed or audited every type of tax return filed in the Winnipeg District Taxation Office. These returns ranged in complexity from the simplest personal returns up to the most complex non-corporate and Corporate variety. In 1967, his career path took a dramatic change when he was assigned to the Appeals Division. Together with then Chief of Appeals, Ed McVitty, they handled all Notices of Objection. In 1971, Sam became the Chief of Appeals, a position he held until his retirement in January 1984. Upon his retirement, his staff knew there would never be another like him and he was given the title, The Legend. But Sam could not adapt to the retirement life and so he began a small consulting business, which kept him busy for a few more years. Sam and Kay enjoyed travelling. Their trips took them down to California, the Caribbean, and throughout Canada. Sam also loved to golf in the summer and curl in the winter. He was a member of the Granite Curling Club, Winnipeg Winter Club and the Niakwa Country Club. More than anything else however, Sam truly enjoyed a rousing good argument. For Sam, a day without an argument was a wasted day. All who worked under Sams direction while he was the Chief of Appeals will agree, that he was our mentor, our tormentor, a teacher and our friend. Kay would like to extend her heartfelt thanks for the care and courtesy shown by the staff at the Central Park Lodge. A viewing and reception will be held on Monday, January 14 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Cremation will follow and interment will take place Tuesday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sams memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2.
