MICHAEL (MIKE) SOLAR November 21, 1920- January 9, 2002 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mike Solar on Wednesday, January 9, 2002. His memory will be cherished by his wife Mary of 48 years; children, Donald (Sandra), Jane (Ross), Colleen (Terry) and Glenn (Marijka) grandchildren, Meaghan, Jessica, Adam, Matthew, Alana, Mirissa and Kirsten; brothers and sisters, Lawrence, Melvin, Donald, Margaret, Helen and their spouses; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl and Katherine. Mike was born and raised on the family farm in the Sifton area and educated at the Dublin Bay School. He was drawn by the adventure and pride of his country and served in the army in Canada and overseas in from 1942 - 1946. His adventure continued after the war when he worked for Dominion Glass in Hamilton. Mikes dedication to his family and faith began when he married Mary Gashena in 1953. He was proud of his 31 year career with Winnipeg Transit and retired in 1984. In supporting his community over the years Mike was actively involved with the brotherhood of the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the North Kildonan Community Club and the Order of St. Andrews. Prayers will be held on Sunday, January 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Cathedral, 1175 Main St. Funeral Rights Service will be held on Monday, January 14 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Cathedral with Very Rev. Henry Lakusta officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mikes memory to the Metropolitan Cathedral or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
