ELIZABETH UNRUH (nee LOEWEN) Elizabeth Unruh died peacefully at the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home on January 11, 2002 surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband Cornelius (Neil) Unruh in 1995. She will be sadly missed by her four daughters and two sons and their families, Phyllis Ilavsky (Ian and Keith), Marlene and Paul Neustaedter (Karen, Carl and Louisa), Margaret and Donald Unruh (Miriam and Bruce, Mark and Robert), Geri and Montie Lowe (Carmen, Monica and Graeme) of Winnipeg, David and Joanne Unruh (Christine and Paul) of West Vancouver, Richard and Sandra Unruh (Jesse and Kellen) of Toronto, and five great-grandchildren, four surviving sisters, Anna and Alf Reimer, Emma and Dave Schroeder, Elsie and Jake Bergen, Irene and Abe Neufeld, and sisters-in-law Mary Loewen, Agnes Unruh and Helen Unruh. Elizabeth was born in Steinbach, MB on November 30, 1914, the eldest child of Isaac and Marie Loewen. Her childhood was spent in Steinbach and Nebraska. She married Neil Unruh on July 5, 1936, with whom she worked in close partnership in the Manitoba communities where he taught. We remember our mother for her love and the exceptional energy with which she cared for her family and managed her household; her warmth and generosity when entertaining family and friends; her volunteer work in her church, school and community. Her lovely smile welcomed all. We also remember how much she enjoyed fishing, the World Series, music, reading, Scrabble, baking, knitting and quilting. The family thanks the staff of Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home for their devoted care to our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. In her memory, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Kidney Foundation, or a charity of your choice. A celebration of our mothers life will be held at the McIvor Mennonite Brethren Church, 200 McIvor Street on Wednesday, January 16 at 10:30 a.m. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway. Klassen Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 338-0331.
