Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) DUKE Peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2002 at Kildonan Personal Care Home, John (Jack) Duke passed away at the age of 90 years. Jack was predeceased by his sisters, Helen and Ethel. Jack is survived by his wife Lucy of 64 years; children, Norma (Dennis) Thibault of Kelowna, BC, Gordon (Nina) Duke of Winnipeg, Jim (Carole) Duke of Winnipeg, David (Marian) Duke of Victoria, BC. He will also be remembered by 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, as well as extended family. Jack was born in Sussex, England on May 10, 1911 and came to Canada with his parents in 1913, where they settled in Elmwood. On October 23, 1937, Jack married Lucy Hopkinson and they lived in St. James for 16 years. They subsequently spent the last few years in the East Kildonan area, the last two years in the Kildonan Personal Care Home. Jack worked as a delivery man with General Bakeries and Modern Dairies for 40 years until his retirement. He loved sports as a spectator, but most of all he was an avid Blue Jays fan. Jack loved to sing. He sang in church choirs, he sang to the ladies in the nursing home, and just a few weeks before his passing, he sang O Danny Boy to his great-granddaughters. Jack and Lucy loved to travel. Their trips took them to England, Hawaii and on numerous bus tours. Up until his passing, he was president of the resident council of K.P.C.C. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Kildonan Personal Care Centre. Memorial service will take place on Friday, January 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to K.P.C.C.
