Born in Regina, SK, he moved to Winnipeg at the age of 14. Bert had a loving, quite, compassionate heart for those he met. He was outstanding in many sports, but his love for football was #1. He played for Daniel McIntyre Collegiate where he was known as, "123 lbs. with rocks in his pockets". Under the excellent coaching of the late Mr. John Potter, he excelled in football. He later played for the Transcona Nationals, Winnipeg Rods and the St. Vital Bulldogs. Dad always portrayed a quiet, firm, confidence that reassured the children he was always there for them. He taught them that your familys love and Gods love was forever. "...but for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15 Papas love for his grandchildren was unconditional. In his quiet manner, he would ask each one "wheres my hug?" and would receive a big smile and a bear hug. Bert was predeceased by his loving wife of 19 years and mother of his children, Margaret Francis; and his brothers, Willis, Sydney, and Dave. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Edith; daughter Eleanor (Todd) and their children, Taylor, Alisha and Victoria; son Rodney (Tina) and their children, Jordan, Matthew and Eric; and son Robert (Teresa) and their children, Isaiah, Devin and Caitlyn; sisters, Ethel Lewsey, Edith (Andrew) Risby, Pearl (Allen) Hayes, Pauline (Roy) Foggo; brother Olie (Cathy) Smith; sisters-in-law, Eileen Smith, Barbara Smith, Nina Francis; brothers-in-law, Al Francis (Linda), Paul Francis and Jim Lee.
