IDA VIRGINIA GUNTER (nee HOUDE) Peacefully on January 11, 2002 at Seven Oaks Hospital, Ida Gunter passed away. Ida was born April 2, 1918 in Ste. Rose Du Lac, MB. Ida was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1984; her parents, Emile and Auriele Houde; her brothers, Eugene, Ovide, Narcious, Rene; and her sister Antonia. Ida is survived by her children, Emily (Harold) Manes of Nanaimo, BC, Ronald (Vivian), Joan (Eugene) Carriere, Olive (Gerald) Shachtay, Ida Mae (Don) of Calgary, AB, Virginia (Ron) Campbell, Don (Peggy) Gunter of Weatherford, Texas, Doreen (Charles) Gusky of Youngstown, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Walter (Diane), Candida (David) Stashko of Calgary, Bradley, Patrick and Melissa; her sister, Sister Bernice Houde of Brandon; her brother, Emery (Madeline) Houde; and sister-in-law Sylvia Houde. She also leaves to mourn her many godchildren; nieces and nephews. Mom loved to cook and loved to debate. Her love encompassed all who knew her. She loved dancing and music; and most of all she loved to laugh. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. She was past president of the Residents Council of St. Norbert Nursing Home. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, January 17, at 2:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St., with Rev. Fr. Gary R. Killian officiating. Interment will follow in Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley St. The family wishes to thank all the staff of St. Norbert Nursing Home for their excellent care, and thanks also to Dr. Millar and the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital and her former home care workers. Mom, you were a rose in Gods Garden, And He has come to take you home, So He can share in your beauty. We will always love you and miss you.
