GILBERT L. MAYER January 25, 1941 - January 13, 2002 After a long, hard and courageous battle with cancer, Gilbert Mayer peacefully went to his Saviour on January 13, 2002. He was predeceased by his children, Eugene, Darryl and Darlene; his parents, Louie and Angelina Mayer; his brothers and sisters, Marcel, Raymond, Philip, Narcisse, Henry, Ralph, Leo, Jane and Irene and two siblings in infancy. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Millie; children, Patsy, Gilbert (Cindy), Lynn (Bob), Chuck (Sheila), Candy (Mike) and Crystal (Jim) many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Melina (Leo), Marie (Brian), Florance, Lillian (Wilfred) his brother Art (Ruth) many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and many good friends. He was a very hard worker all of his life. He started working at a very young age at various jobs. Later he went to work for Block & Sons for many years. He then ventured out and started his own company, G. Mayer Cartage, and did contract work for the city for many many years. Gibby was a loving and generous person who always lent a helping hand to anyone who needed him. He spent many hours with his good friends (you know who you are) in his shop puttering around on the cars and trucks that he so loved to work on. Remember the good coffee - only he could make. Thanks to Drs. Wong and Forester and the nurses on 5A at the St. Boniface Hospital, who went out of their way to make him comfortable. I would like to give special thanks to Gibbys good friends and buddies (you know who you are) for all your help. At his request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). Interment to follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. "Take comfort in knowing there is no pain, encircled in the Lords arms, I live again." Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
