JULIA CHORNENKI March 2, 1923 - January 14, 2002 Our dear Mother, Best Friend and Baba, Julia Chornenki, of St. Andrews, MB, passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital on Monday, January 14, 2002, with her daughter Bonnie at her side. Julia was born and raised in St. Andrews, MB. She was the second youngest of 13 children of Michael and Martha Fial. She met John, her husband to be, in 1940 and they were married August 9, 1941. They resided in Winnipeg where they raised their two daughters, Beverly and Bonnie. John and Julia both loved travelling, which they did extensively, Hawaii being their most frequent destination. They enjoyed their summers together and took pride in their cabin at Winnipeg Beach. Both of them enjoyed picking mushrooms and she continued this fall activity until recently. Julias first love was her family, her children and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother and Baba. She will always be remembered for her sense of humour and her witty personality. She was well known for her excellent cooking and baking, which she shared with family and friends. Julia had a radiant smile and was quick to help others whatever their needs. She was well liked and respected by all who knew her, both young and old. Throughout her life, Julia was an example of inner strength, boundless energy and generosity. After her husband John passed on in 1981, she still continued to travel extensively with friends until her health prevented her from doing so. She enjoyed her summers at her cabin at Winnipeg Beach with her family, neighbours and friends. After her first stroke she moved in with her daughter Bonnie and granddaughter Shannon into an adjoining Granny Suite, where she lived for the past 16 months until her passing. Mom enjoyed her walks to the garden and loved to sit on her deck and tend to her flowers. On her good days, she would walk with Penny to meet Shannon getting off the school bus. Baba enjoyed baking cookies, playing cards and doing puzzles with Shannon. She and Bonnie had a close bond and was Bonnies best friend and confidante throughout her life. They shared many happy as well as sad times together. They were always sensitive to each others needs. Her unconditional love and support and their last Christmas together will always be remembered. Julia was predeceased by her husband John (1981), her parents, two sisters, and four brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Bonnie Stevenson, granddaughter Shannon and Glenn Stevenson; also daughter Beverly Sarna, grandson Michael and family, granddaughter Barb Risk and family; and five sisters, Joan, Helen, Gladys, Margaret and Millie; and one brother John; as well as many nieces and nephews, godchildren and special friends, Barry and Jane Barske, Jim Nicol, Olga Fuga, Ollie Chelada, Emily Biluk, Georgina Tinsley and Ron MacInnes. Baba will be missed by her four-legged companions, Cody and Penny. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Theresas Roman Catholic Church, 3597 Main St., Winnipeg, with Msgr. Louis McCloskey officiating. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Julias memory may be made to St. Theresas Church, 3597 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R4A 5A2 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8. Special thanks to the staff of 5th Floor-U3 Seven Oaks Hospital for their excellent care and compassion, Dr. J. Kernahan, Dr. Wiebe and Msgr. McCloskey and Sister Alice for their visits and prayers. To My Family..... Remember me in your heart, your thoughts, and your memories, of the times we loved, the times we cried, the times we fought, and the times we laughed. For if you always think of me, I will never have gone. Love ... Mom CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
