JAMES BAXTER James Baxter passed away suddenly on January 14, 2002 in Richmond, BC at the age of 87. James was born in 1914 in Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Thunder Bay, ON at an early age with his family. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and worked as a telegraphist on a Corvette during the Battle of the Atlantic. James re-enlisted as a signalman in the Royal Canadian Signals Corps with the United Nations Forces in Korea. James worked at Bristol Aerospace Limited in Winnipeg, MB in civilian life and was a very active member in the union. He moved to Vancouver, BC from Winnipeg with his wife in 1983. Since settling in Richmond he had been involved with the Royal Canadian Legion and Minoru Seniors Centre. James loved to play cribbage and snooker. He also walked the Minoru Track daily. James was predeceased by his wife Margaret Helena (nee Beal) of 30 years. James is survived by his loving family, sister-in-law Mary Murphy in Ottawa; son Thomas and daughter-in-law Laima Parker (Winnipeg), and son Alan and daughter-in-law Joyce Parker (Winnipeg) former daughter-in-law Patricia; grandchildren, Tom, Raymond, Jennifer, Devon, Tim, Allyson, and Christine; great-grandchildren, Connor, William and Victoria; as well as numerous friends in Richmond. James will be remembered for his gentleness and interest in current events. A memorial service will be held at the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Rd., Richmond, BC on Tuesday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
