Anne, MB, on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 after a battle with leukemia. Del was born in Foley, MB to Pauline and Dmytro Slobodian. The family moved in to Winnipeg in 1927. She married Walter in 1941 and, during the Second World War they spent some time in Newfoundland, where Walter was serving in the R.C.N.V.R. On their return to Winnipeg, Del was employed by the Hudsons Bay Company in Winnipeg and she remained with The Bay for 20 years, first as a hairdresser and then as a clerk. After Walters retirement they spent several years in Ear Falls, ON where they managed a motel and dining room for a Fly-in Fishing Lodge. During those years, and for a total of 22 years, they wintered in Dels favourite place - Las Vegas. Wherever Del went she made friends. She was a warm, caring, outgoing person with an interest in all those she met. Del will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 60 years, Walter; by her sisters, Steffie Kostelnuk and Verna Koss; her niece Connie and husband Bud Heck and family of St. Paul, MN; by her brother-in-law Murray and family of California; her brother-in-law Tom Hanaway, wife Grace, nephew Tom of Winnipeg; niece Louise and husband Myron Lamaga and family of Hadashville; and by her many cousins, nieces and nephews, and by her many, many friends. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy #1 East at Green Acres Lane. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dels memory to Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Ste. Anne Hospital for their care and their kindness shown to Del. GREEN ACRES FUNERAL CHAPEL 222-3241
