NOREEN PATRICIA TURNBULL (nee KERR) It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of our loving and much loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend on Thursday, January 17, 2002. She leaves to cherish her memory, Bill, her husband of 58 years, and her children and grandchildren, Joy and husband Gilles Laverdure, Erika and Livia of Montreal; Jill Crowell of Chicago; Jim and his wife Kim, Carter and Blaire of Denver; and Frank and his wife Peachey, Colin and Owen of Spokane. She was predeceased by her parents, Colin and Hilda Kerr; and by her dear brother, Jim Kerr. Noreen was born in Winnipeg on February 18, 1921 and attended Windsor and Norberry schools. Along with her family she actively participated in the life of Rosedale United Church, teaching both Sunday school and Cubs. She and Bill were married on October 13, 1943. Bills military postings took them to Clinton and Trenton, ON, Gimli, MB and Cold Lake, AB. Each new posting found Mom actively involved again in voluntary pursuits including Guiding and church work. It was during these years that she and Bill developed a life long love of square and round dancing, which they reluctantly gave up in recent years. When Bills retirement brought them back to Winnipeg in 1968, Mom enjoyed working for many years at the Pembina Gift Shop and Pharmacy. She renewed her involvement in Rosedale (Churchill Park) United Church, working tirelessly in several capacities for many years. Moms greatest joy was her family and she gave to us all in immeasurable ways, taking a particular interest in her grandchildren of whom she was so proud. All through her life she made a great many friends, both young and old. She had a kind, caring nature, and a special gift for reaching out to others. She will be dearly missed by many in Winnipeg, across Canada, and by her special friend, Rita Holmes in Dundee, Scotland. A special thanks is extended from the family to Noreens dear friend, Bernice Passalis. A memorial celebration service will be held at Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Ave., Tuesday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of ones choice.
