Date of Passing: Jan 17, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryADA MAY FOSTER (nee ORVIS) Peacefully, on January 17, 2002, at Grace General Hospital, at the age of 86. She was predeceased by her sisters, Ethel, Bertha, Esther and brother Dan. She is survived by her son Robert and wife Marusia Foster; grandchildren, Lorraine, Catherine and Carolyn; and sister Evelyn. Ada was the daughter of Fred and Francis Orvis and was born at Balsam Bay, MB on June 2, 1915. Her early years were spent at Balsam Bay. Ada loved flowers and worked for many years for Kings and other Winnipeg florists. She enjoyed various crafts, quilting, doll making, paper tole, and sewing everything from wedding dresses to doll clothes for her grandchildren. She also painted in oils, reflecting scenes from around her parents homestead. Her interest in genealogy led her to collect and write stories and poems about growing up in the Grand Beach area. She was very active in the Church. For many years, Ada provided leadership in the young girls groups at the former St. Pauls United Church on Notre Dame Avenue, and at the United Church camp at Belair. More recently, she attended the Arlington Street Gospel Chapel. The family would like to extend their thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and support staff at Grace Hospital who cared for Ada. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in the spring with interment of ashes at Balsam Bay Cemetery. Ada will be dearly missed, especially by her three granddaughters, and remembered for her warmth and creativity. "...whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
