Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCAPTAIN HERBERT WILLIAM CAIE C.D. Captain Herbert William Caie C.D., aged 76 years, passed away at home suddenly on Thursday, January 17, 2002. Herb served in the Second World War in North West Europe; the battle of Normandy. He went overseas with the Princess Patricias later to be transferred to special forces tri service Highland Light Infantry. He was severely wounded in action October 9, 1944. In Herbs early years, he was a member of the Sons of Scotland camp 87 Robbie Burns where he served as chief and past chief. He was also a member of the Cameron Highlanders. Much later in his life he became involved with the Princess Patricia Cadets 2701. He became their commanding officer and was instrumental in having a flag made in India for them. Herb was also a member of Sir Sam Steele Legion where he was their Sargeant-at-Arms and was on the colour party. Herb worked for the T. Eaton Company for a number of years after the war and Guertin Paint until early retirement due to ill health. Herb leaves to mourn his wife Georgina of 53 years; daughter Margaret; brother John (Amelia) sister-in-law Alva; cousin Barbara (George) of Victoria, BC; his favorite aunt Lois Smith of Lions Manor and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother George in 1992. Herb had a ready smile, a quick wit and marvelous sense of humour, and liked all people. He was a gentle, kind man and those who knew him will miss him. The family would like to thank all the home care workers, the First Response Team of Paramedics and the Winnipeg Police Service for their kindness. Also, a big thank you to No. 9 Royal Canadian Legion for their thoughtfulness over the whole year never forgetting Herb. It was much appreciated. Visitation 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 22 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. Funeral service will take place 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 23 at Bardal Funeral Home. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8 or a charity of your choice.
