AL GOLDBERG April 25, 1920 - January 18, 2002 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Abraham (Al) Goldberg at Pembina Place, Winnipeg. Funeral services were held at Shaarey Zedek synagogue, interment at Shaarey Zedek cemetery. Al grew up in the North End of Winnipeg graduating from St. Johns Tech. He studied for one year at the Yeshiva University in New York. During the Second World War he enlisted in the army and served in London during the Blitz. After the war, he and his brothers opened Goldberg Bros. Ltd., one of the first manufacturers of ladies coats in Western Canada. The family fondly remembers the vacations driving to Disneyland, Expo 67, Seattle Worlds Fair and endless summers water-skiing at Winnipeg Beach, and weekly visits to the Dashevsky family farm in Brunkild. Al was a lifelong/founding member of the Montefiore club and Glendale Golf Club. The family wishes to thank the staff at Pembina Place for the special care given Al in his last year. Al is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sally, his loving children, Maureen Rabin (David) of Montreal, Monica Walderman (Mykl) of Toronto, and Marc Goldberg (Kathryn) devoted grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Michael, Erin and Carley; brothers, Morris (Als card playing partner and daily visitor), and Jack; and sisters-in-law, Rita and Gwen; and numerous nephews and nieces. Al was predeceased by his beloved grandson Owen Walderman, and eight cherished brothers and sisters. Al will always be remembered as warm, gentle, kind and generous. Donations in Als memory can be made to the Owen Walderman fund, in care of The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation in Toronto; Rainbow Society, 302-171 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3C 1M4 or the charity of your choice.
