Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALFONSINA FIORENTINO-ANANIA It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Alfonsina Fiorentino-Anania, who passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2002 at the Victoria General Hospital, at the age of 83. She was predeceased by her husband Gregorio Anania, and brothers, Antonio and Pietro Fiorentino. Her loss is mourned by her children, Angelina (Angelo), Raffaele (Lucia), Felicia (Giuseppe), Alfonso (Carmela), Liliana, Elena, and Franco (Mona) 30 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Alfonsina was born in Amato, Italy, August 14, 1918. She was married at the age of 23, in 1940 to Gregorio Anania. >From that time she dedicated her life to her husband and children. Her children were her first priority. She protected them from everyone. She proved herself a strong woman as she took care of her children and her household as her husband was away at war. Her modesty did not allow her to complain about the sacrifice made for the better welfare of her children. Alfonsina was a skilled artisan in the arts of embroidery, crochet, and knitting. She loved cooking and would do so all day if she had the chance. She liked gardening and loved flowers. She always had fresh flowers at home. Alfonsina was an excellent communicator. She endlessly wrote letters of correspondence to friends all over the world. She wrote to friends in Argentina, New York, Chicago, Canada. It was so important for her to maintain contact. Other people, knowing about her skill and her confidentiality, asked her to write their correspondences. Alfonsina was a very religious woman and especially devoted to San Francesco di Paola. She loved to sing religious songs and spent many hours in prayer. For the love and devotion of her family, Alfonsina so bravely journeyed to Canada to be reunited with her children in 1998. A journey that was very difficult for a woman her age. And now, she has one last journey to make. She will be travelling back to Amato, Italy to join her husband in their chosen resting place. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave., with Rev. Fr. Sam Argenziano Presiding at the Eucharist. Mass will be followed by a viewing. Pallbearers are Giuseppe Grande, Gregorio R. Anania, Gregorio Masi, Gregorio Grande, Antonio Falvo, Gregorio A. Anania, Deano Anania, and David Conci. Interment will take place at a later date in Amato, Italy. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8.
