EDITH A. MARTEL (nee LUSSIER) January 7, 1920 - January 23, 2002 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother and friend at the age of 82 years old. Beloved wife of Rene (deceased 1995), Edith leaves to mourn her children, Norbert (Rose) of Winnipeg, Annette (Hugh Goddard) of Lac du Bonnet, Evelyne (Leslie Demas) of Calgary, Marilyn (Les Beever) of Edmonton, and Lise (Marcel Dagesse) of Winnipeg; and her grandchildren, Gerard (Tanya), Nicole (Deron), Jeannine, Roger, Colette, Richard, Donna (Jim), Nathalie, Chantal, Ron (Debbie), Chris and Ken; and her great-grandchildren, Allyson, Travis, Tyler and Amber. She was the last survivor of her family: her parents, Helene (1942) and Rodrigue (1964) her brothers and sisters, Evelyn (1992), Roma (1987), Martial (1984), Irene (1982), Gerard (1974), Gilbert (1969), Rodrigue Jr. (1951) and Fabiola (1942). She also leaves to mourn her sister-in-law Odile Lussier of St. Boniface; her brothers-in-law, Bernard (Odile) Martel of St. Leon and Antoine Lafreniere of Somerset; many nieces and nephews and friends. Edith was born in St. Leon, MB, married Rene on June 10, 1943 and they moved to St. Claude in 1948, where they spent most of their lives together. She was proud of being a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and a volunteer for the Red Cross. She was a real piano enthusiast and enjoyed entertaining her friends and family and played many hours accompanying a local band. She also loved shopping, travelling, playing cards and bingo. She moved to lAccueil Colombien in 1996. Edith loved being close to her children and visited them often. She will always be remembered for her pleasant smile, her friendliness and the love for her children. Cremation has taken place. Prayers will be held on Friday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St., St. Boniface. A memorial service will be held at St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m., with interment of the cremated remains to follow in the St. Claude Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Moms memory to the Handi-Van, P.O. Box 400, St. Claude, MB R0G 1Z0.
