HELOISE KROFT Heloise Kroft passed away on Thursday night, January 24, 2002, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Heloise was born in Winnipeg on May 26, 1910, and grew up in Norwood, the only daughter among Herman and Hinda Cohns five children. She attended school there and was working as a legal secretary when she met Charles Kroft. They were married on June 6, 1933, and together lived a full and productive life that spanned nearly 51 years, until Charles passing in April, 1984. Heloise participated actively with her husband throughout his outstanding career in the grain industry. She was a central part of the local, national, and international network of friends and associates that they built together. She is survived by her two sons, Justice Guy Kroft and Senator Richard Kroft, C.M.; their wives, Hester and Hillaine, who were daughters to her in every way; seven grandchildren, Jonathan (Cara), Debbie (Morley), David (Ellen), and Sarah (Jeff) Beth (Josh), Steve (Lisa) and Gordie; and 13 great-grandchildren; her brother Wilfred (Isobel) in Vancouver, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her three brothers Clarence, Harry and George. Heloise and Charles Kroft took their greatest pride and found their greatest joy in their children and grandchildren. In the years since her husbands passing, Heloise has seen her family grow through the marriages of six grandchildren and subsequent great-grandchildren. She has been the active centre of this group and it is impossible to overstate her involvement in and love for her entire family, and theirs for her. Heloise Kroft (Nana) was a proud, independent, caring woman whose role as a builder and sustainer of a loving family will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be held at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Sunday, January 27 at 1:00 p.m. Shiva will be observed at 85 Ash St. Anyone wishing to make a contribution in Heloise Krofts memory could direct it to the Heloise and Charles Kroft Fund at the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, C400 - 123 Doncaster St., Winnipeg, MB R3N 2B2, Tel. 477-7525, or to a charity of their choice.
