ARCHIE MARDELL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Archie Mardell, on November 28, 2001, with his family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 71 years. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Gertrude; and one infant brother Ian. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Lil; his children, Diana (Dan) of Inuvik, NWT, Jim (Laura-Jean) of Thompson, MB, Beverley (Troy) of Sylvan Lake, AB; his grandchildren, Jamie, Josh, Alyssa, Amanda; his brothers, Adrian (Darlene) of Crows Nest Pass, AB, Hubert of Grand Forks, BC, Allen (Irene) of Flin Flon, MB; and his sister Evadnee (Alvin) of Birmingham, AL; as well as numerous other relatives. Archie also leaves numerous friends in the Thompson, Flin Flon and Shipman areas. Educated in Shipman, at a young age, Archie boarded a train to Ontario and began his place in the work force. From Ontario, Archie mined in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Yukon and the North West Territories, and later bought land and farmed in the Shipman area, harvesting his final crop shortly before his passing. Archie made his home in Flin Flon for the past 26 years. Archie will always be remembered as a kind, considerate, generous man with a great sense of humour. Archie loved to laugh, visit with friends, but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and loved nothing more than to tease his grandchildren. Archie was the soul of generosity and he has left us with many happy memories. His passing has left a hole in our hearts; we will miss him greatly and love him forever. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 1, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Anns Roman Catholic Church in Flin Flon, MB, with Rev. Ed Pullam officiating. Urn bearer was Archies best friend Ross Svenkeson. Honorary pallbearers were Willy Klapenbach, Albert Prince, Richard Mardell, Andy Wasyleiw, Ron Dernogas, Paul Abrahamson, Jack Bouteiller, Dale Smith, Dave Wasyleiw, Walter Long, Otto Bindle and Emil Sklar. Ushers were Reg Bouteiller and Fred Bouteiller. Register attendant was Kaitlyn Wally. The family would like to thank the medical staff who cared for Archie at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. As well as Dr. Amin, the Palliative Care Unit and a special thank you to Helen Wally of the Flin Flon General Hospital whose gentle kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you to Rev. Pullam, Dana Dadson and the pallbearers. And also thank you to the Legion Ladies Auxiliary for the wonderful lunch. The family is sincerely grateful to all the relatives, friends, and neighbours for gifts of food, flowers, cards and donations in Archies memory. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Flin Flon General Hospital to the attention of Darby Johanson. Dadson Funeral Home of Flin Flon, Manitoba, was entrusted with the arrangements. (204) 687-5821.
