BETTY LACHTER With profound sorrow, the family of the late Betty Lachter announces her death in Vancouver on December 12, 2001, at age 89, with her sons at her bedside. Predeceasing were her husband Mickey; a son, Kenny; her parents, Sam and Clara Lazers; her sisters, Bertha Plosker and Molly Tessler; and her brothers, Harry Lazare and Lou Lazers. Surviving are two sons, Sid (Sandra) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Shale of Vancouver; her grandsons, Marty of Albany, NY, and Hartley of Riverdale, NY; her granddaughter and great-granddaughter, Allison (Michael) and Rachel Richter of Tucson, AZ, and various nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services and interment took place in Vancouver on December 14. Pallbearers were Sid, Shale, Marty and Hartley Lachter, Oscar Nerman and Brent Rykiss. Betty was a native Winnipeger. She started the citys first baby sitting agency in 1946 and ran it until she and Mickey retired to Vancouver in 1980. She was a long-time member of the Shaarey Synagogue and choir, the Jewish Womens Musical Club, the Bnai Brith bowling league, Hadassah and ORT. She was a unique, loving woman who will be sadly missed. Donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimers research.
