KENNETH PETER BERRY June 30, 1920 - January 25, 2002 Peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital our father passed away after a lengthy illness, at the age of 81, with his family by his side. He leaves to mourn his wife Tillie; his daughters, Sandra (Richard), Donna (Brian) of Calgary, Patricia; his son Kevin of Vancouver; and two wonderful grandchildren, Kellie and Sean. Our father was born and raised in Stonewall, MB as one of eight children, all of whom are predeceased, except for a sister Anne of Edmonton. Dad served overseas with the Lord Strathcona Horse during the Second World War for six years. Upon returning home, he began his 37 year career with the Liquor Control Commission working his way up to Store Manager before retiring in 1985. Dads favourite pastime was gardening where he loved to grow many surprises including cantaloupes and zucchinis the size of watermelons. His lifelong interests were reading, classical music, horses, and sports, especially hockey and football. In his earlier years, Ken was an avid curler and golfer. He also helped build Faith Lutheran Church where he spent many evenings and weekends framing, finishing and laying bricks. Over the years dad took on many health challenges but remained marching like a soldier until the very end. His family extends heartfelt thanks to all who cared for him over the years including his wife, Dr. M.L. Cummings, Dr. Hugh Smith, the Paramedics, the Fire Department, all the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department, Reassessment, and 5A South. Pastor Larry Ulrich and Chaplain Rosalind eased his last hours along with special prayers by many others. Dad, we all love you and shall never forget your amazing personal strength and endurance. You sure lived up to your army nickname of "Stoney". From the bottom of our hearts we each thank you for all of your continuous love, support and generosity. Rest Peacefully Dad. We will all miss you dearly. Cremation has taken place with a private graveside military service and interment to follow at a later date. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation. God looked around His garden, And found an empty space, He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He knew the road was getting rough, And the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone. For part of us went with you The day God called you home.
