PHYLLIS ELIZABETH BAYNE (GRANT)

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHYLLIS ELIZABETH BAYNE (nee GRANT) Peacefully passed away at the age of 90 years at the Victoria General Hospital on January 29, 2002, three days short of her 91st birthday. Phyllis was predeceased by her sister, Allison Bongard in March of 2001 and is survived by her step-daughter Grace and her step-son Magnus. Phyllis was born in St. James in 1911, the eldest daughter of Dr. W. J. Grant and Mabel Grant. She spent most of her childhood in various small towns in South-West Manitoba where her father was a country doctor. She loved the country life. The family moved back to Winnipeg in 1927, after attending Success Business college she went to work for Bingham and Bingham, Insurance Agents and Managers of the Paris Building, from 1928 to 1945. In 1946 she married Herbert Aubrey Bayne, Land Surveyor, and they spent 29 wonderful years together before Aubreys death in 1969. She was very active in Church Work. In her early years she was president of Knox United Church Study Club. She was also active in John Black United Church for many years. Then, in 1948, she and Aubrey joined Harrow United church where she became deeply involved with the Womens Missionary Society. Phyllis and Aubrey spent many happy summers at their cottage at Victoria Beach where they were on the Executive of the summer church. After Aubreys retirement they spent many enjoyable winters at Victoria, BC. Dogs were an important part of her life. Cremation has taken place and there will be a service of remembrance at Harrow United Church, 955 Mulvey Ave., at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 1. There will be a private family interment in Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ray Singer for his years of devoted care.
