GIUSEPPE "JOE" BUETI Peacefully, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer, Giuseppe died on January 30, 2002 at the age of 78 years, at the Health Sciences Centre. Giuseppe leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 53 years Giuseppina; son Vincent (Sandie), Caterina Sotiriadis (George) grandchildren, David, Dinos, Alexander, Santina; brothers, Diego (Antonietta), Rocco (Gail) sisters, Filomena Bova, Angela Licandro (Francesco), Grazia Spezzano (Antonio) in-laws, Georgio Bova (Giuseppina), Giuseppe Bova (Francesca), Antonio Cotroneo (Maria) numerous nieces, nephews, and countless family and friends in Canada, Italy, Australia and the United States. Giuseppe was born in San Roberto, Reggio Calabria, Italy where he served in the Italian army, married, then came to Canada in 1953. After completing his government contract in northern Ontario and Manitoba, Giuseppe came to Winnipeg and worked for the CN Railways where after 39 years he retired as a foreman. His brother Diego, then his brother Rocco joined him in Winnipeg at the CN in 1954 and 1955 respectively. His wife and children arrived in Winnipeg the following year. Giuseppe was the first person from San Roberto to settle in Winnipeg. He sponsored many of the others who would later choose Canada as their new home. These families, including the children and grandchildren, now exceed 300 persons. Giuseppes greatest love and pride was his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed inviting family and friends for the sumptuous dinners that his devoted wife prepared. A vibrant, hard working, generous man, he believed in higher education and its power to open the minds and hearts of those who possess it. He was proud of his children and nieces and nephews whose careers include law, medicine, social work, accounting, engineering, teaching, pharmacy, languages and business and whom he felt opened many doors to immigrants, the new Canadians and his generation. His only regret was not being able to see his grandchildren graduate from university. A man who believed in respect, Giuseppe was legendary for his dependability, his sound counsel and his kindness to those in need. Along side his wife, he enjoyed working in his, and his two childrens large vegetable gardens; making wine from carefully selected California grapes and meeting with friends at the local Italian cafes for a game of cards. A man of strong faith, he has found solace in God. The family wishes to thank Dr. Joe Bueti, Dr. F. Albi, Dr. Maksymiuk, Dr. Tan and Dr. S. Ahmed for accompanying Giuseppe in his struggle against cancer and the gentle health care workers at the Health Sciences Centre who attended him. There are caring angels on earth. The pallbearers will be David Bueti, Dinos Sotiriadis, Alexander Sotiriadis, Francesco Bova, Justin Bova, Daniele DellAcqua and Anthony Cotroneo. Prayers will be said on Friday, February 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, February 2 at 10:00 a.m. also in Holy Rosary Church, with Reverend Fr. Sam Argenziano presiding at the Eucharist, and entombment to follow at Green Acres Memorial Garden, Holy Angel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the CancerCare Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave. Room ON109 Wpg., Mb., R3E 0V9. "Sarai sempre nel nostro cuore. Well miss you, Pops.
