PETER McBRIDE On Monday, January 29, 2002 at the West Park Manor Personal Care Home, Peter McBride peacefully passed away into the loving arms of his Lord and Saviour at the age of 103 years. Born in Rothesay, Scotland in 1898, Peter was one in a family of 10. Completing school he served his apprenticeship as a ship plater during World War One, and came to Canada in 1923. For 40 years he was employed by Manitoba Bridge, retiring in 1963 as shipping foreman. Peter was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army, playing in the Winnipeg Citadel Band for over 40 years, and retiring in 1973 as Corps Sergeant Major. He was a lifelong member on Ionic Lodge #25 and also a member of the Scottish Rite. He was predeceased by his dear wife Sarah, daughter Elsie Kinnard, grandson John, four sisters and three brothers. Surviving are daughters, Lt. Col. Isabel Armstrong (Stan), and Irene Anderson (Charles) of Winnipeg; and sons, Gordon (Nettie) of Fort Frances, Jack (Marilyn) of Winnipeg, and Jim (Mildred) of Lake Worth, FL. Also surviving are two sisters, Brigadier Jessie Pickering of Asbury Park, NJ and Brigadier Nessie Strachan of Toronto. Peter loved his 16 grandchildren, 45 great-grand-children, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was a very loving and generous man with a great sense of humour who was widely respected by many people. His generosity and caring nature was often given to those around him and his devout Christianity was an inspiration to those who knew him. Peters funeral service will be held on Monday, February 4 at 1:30 p.m. in the Salvation Armys Heritage Park Temple, 825 School Rd. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. Viewing will be held one hour prior to Peters service in the Temple. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of West Park Manor for all their kindness and wonderful care, and to Olive Johnson for all her weekly visits. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missionary Group of the Salvation Armys Southlands Community Church, 85 Keslar Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 6A8.
