ERNEST WHITE January 17, 1929 - January 29, 2002 Ernie was born on the High Street in Edinburgh, Scotland. Believing that better opportunities awaited him, he immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1953 where he met his beloved Pat. Ernie and Pat moved to Calgary, then Winnipeg. They settled in Charleswood in 1961 and have resided there ever since. Ernies work ethic and ambition led him to start working for Sears in 1959, where he rose from being refrigeration engineer to the executive levels of management. Retiring from Sears in 1983 left him more time to follow his two passions in life; soccer and music, especially the Heart of Midlothian Football Club and piping for the Shrine Temple Pipes and Drums. Ernie held many volunteer positions in this regard. He eventually served as President of both the Alexander Parks Board and the Shrine Temple Pipes and Drums band. His mother Margaret, father George, brother George and sisters Margaret and Christine predeceased Ernie. Ernie leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Pat, son Robert (Heidi), daughter Heather (Tony), and his beloved grandchildren, Craig, Grant Lindsay, Christine, Brandt and Kevin. He is also survived by his sisters, Daisy (Bill), Mary, Ruby (Allan), Min (Ian), and Nan (Jim) brother-in-law Boyd (Mert) and sisters-in-law, Bet and June; many nieces, nephews and very close friends. Dad, you brought joy and humour to our lives. You taught us to enjoy our Scottish heritage. We will wear our MacGregor tartan with pride (S Rioghal mo Dhream). Your courage and love have given us strength. We love you and are going to miss you desperately. "lang may yer lum reek" in heaven Dad. Special thanks to Dr. Pat Harris and all the staff in the Grace Hospital Oncology Unit and to Stella and the staff at the Riverview Health Centre. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Masonic Memorial Temple, 420 Corydon Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Burn Fund, 1155 Wilkes Ave. Winnipeg, MB, R3P 1B9 or The Canadian Cancer Society.
