WALTER CHLYSTA It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Walter Chlysta, aged 73 years, on Friday, February 1, 2002, at St. Boniface Hospital. Walter was predeceased by his mother Anne; father Stefan; sisters, Zonia, Olha, Petrunela in Ukraine. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Maria; four children, Dr. Terry Chlysta (Sharon), grandchildren, Alexander and Adrian, Dr. Walter Chlysta (Lisa), Dr. Dana Chlysta, grandchildren, Motria and Oleksa, Dr. Lesia Chlysta. He will also be missed by his sister Mary Choptiany (Nick) nephews, Dr. Ihor Choptiany (Chrystyna) and their children, Dr. Bohdan Choptiany (Carol), Oksana Bogucki (John) and their children; his nephew Victor Hryshchenko (Maya) and their son Ihor; sisters-in-law, Justina Duplak (Mike), their children, Andrij Duplak (Irena) and their children, Stefan Duplak (Halia) and their children, Anastsia Polny (John) and their children, Dr. Bohdan (Gina), Dr. Lilia, Dr. Oksana; numerous nieces and nephews in Ukraine and friends in Winnipeg and Canada. Walter was born on May 25, 1928 in Ustryki Dolni, Ukraine. He was forced to leave his family at the very young age of 13 with his older sister Maria. They left for Germany. During the Second World War he went to Austria and Switzerland. In 1946 he decided to go to England where he worked for three years in Doncaster. In 1949 he immigrated to Canada, living in Toronto for eight years. As a young man he was a member of Institute Prosvita and also an active member of the choir. In 1956 he came to Winnipeg. Here again he was an active member of the choir at Institute Prosvita. On June 6, 1959 he married Maria and together they raised their four wonderful children. For many years he was a member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. In recent years he was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. All his life he worked hard. He had his own plumbing business, as well as Commercial Real Estate Developments. He enjoyed working and never really retired. In the winter Walter and Maria enjoyed travelling. In the summer Walter loved going to the cottage. He enjoyed his summers there with his family and friends. Walter and Maria had a love for nature. They enjoyed hunting, fishing, water skiing, berry and mushroom picking. Hobbies included wine making and bee keeping. He was a devoted and caring husband to Maria for 42 years and a proud dad to his four children. He was always there for them. He was a man of pride. He loved his family more than anything and will be sadly missed. "How much we truly love you dad, and there are no words to express how greatly you will be missed." The family would like to thank the exemplary doctors, nurses and staff of Palliative Care, St. Boniface Hospital for their superior care given to Walter during his stay and last moments of his life. Panachyda (prayers) will be sung 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 4 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, also at the church, with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. Donations in Walters memory may be made to the Children of Chernobyl Fund. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
