GRACE ROBINA BAYNE Grace Robina Bayne passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at the age of 79 years at the Fred Douglas Lodge, where she had resided for the past eight years. Grace was predeceased by her mother, Marie Anna Bayne, in 1945 and by her father, Herbert Aubrey Bayne in 1969. She is survived by her brother, Magnus; cousins, Margaret Swayze and her husband Walter, Frances Spice of Winnipeg, Grace Wallace of Memphis, TN and Arthur Hobbs and his wife Jean of Winnipeg. Grace was born in Old Kildonan on June 28, 1922, the eldest child of Aubrey and Marie Bayne. She took her early schooling at Lord Kitchener and St. Johns Tech. She also attended the University of Manitoba and received a degree in Music. She became an accomplished pianist, studying under Phyllis Holtby. During the war she did clerical work for the Air Force, following which she worked for many years at the Federal Rust Research Laboratory at the University of Manitoba. The balance of her career was spent at the CNR, latterly in the Accounting Department, from which she retired in 1987. During her lifetime Grace was very fond of travelling, both on this continent and in Europe. She also spent many happy days at the family cottage at Victoria Beach and also at West Hawk Lake. She was an avid golfer and tennis player. There will be a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 7 at the Fred Douglas Lodge, 1275 Burrows Ave. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge who provided kindness and care to Grace during her lengthy stay.
